Director of GL Claims

Houston, TX

Overview:

 

You
will have experience managing complex commercial liability and general
liability claims for an insurance carrier or in a TPA setting.

 

You
will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Company’s Liability Claims
program.

 

 The primary responsibility is to drive cost
effective claim resolutions while following our mission statement. This role
will work closely with the Director of Risk Management.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

You
will manage daily workflow by assigning claims within the department and to carrier.

You
will direct, monitor, and support claim handling.

Reviews
files for appropriate investigation.

You
will be the decision maker who approves settlements.

Responsible
for ongoing management of carrier claim functions including overseeing claim
handling best practices, account instructions and billing rates.

Collaborates
with Director of Risk Management and General Counsel on risk management and
litigation matters.

You
will work jointly with Director of Risk Management on litigated files to
include suit assignment to defense counsel, development of case strategy,
discovery, and settlement evaluation.

Identifies
opportunities for Liability Program enhancements and cost reduction
initiatives.

Maintains
and applies knowledge of all trends, laws and practices pertaining to the
investigation, processing and settlement of Liability claims.

Mentors,
coaches, and develops team members through orientation, training, establishment
of objectives, communication of policies/mission statement. Conducts annual
performance reviews of (3) in-house adjusters.

Reviews
reserves on regular basis and collaborates with Director of Risk Management on
reporting reserves to finance department.

Maintains
quality assurance by completing file reviews on in-house files and coordinating
carrier file reviews.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 10+ years commercial general
    liability claims experience, preferably in foodservice, hospitality or retail

  • 5+ years previous
    management/supervisory experience with emphasis on coaching, development and
    training

  • Experience handling liability
    claims and claims in litigation.

  • Dynamic and enthusiastic leader
    with experience in training, coaching and developing team

  • Strong interpersonal and
    communication skills

  • Excellent written skills and
    formal report writing experience

  • Proficient in the use of
    Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • AIC, ARM and CPCU designations
    or equivalent coursework a plus
