December Insurance Job Market Observations

The shortage of some popular gifts during the holiday shopping season resembles the shortages of talent available in certain insurance job sectors. As we watch more and more clients scramble for talent it does look more like last minute shopping than a disciplined commitment to hiring the top talent. In the insurance industry, the need for underwriting talent is by far the strongest we have seen in the last 5 years. Part of this is the retirement of seasoned professionals but this is compounded by the lack of commitment to training new underwriters and the demographics in the industry. The smallest age group in all industries is the 30 to 45 year olds, and this is the age most companies are looking to add to the organization. How many times have you seen the requirement looking for someone with 8 to 15 years of experience?

The National Insurance Recruiters Association web site reveals some interesting shifts in where these
insurance jobs are located this month. The North East continues to have 3 to 4 more jobs open than any
other part of the country. The South East surpassed the Midwest this month in terms of open jobs. Once
again the Pacific Region had the least number of openings. The Commercial Insurance continues to be
hot in terms of the demand for talent. Underwriting is the most active, Brokerage Service is next, and
Sales rounds out the third most active sector. Please feel free to review these open insurance jobs at
