Insurance Job Market Observations for November

Insurance Job Market Observations for November

By: Mike McDonough

This year I am very thankful for the new and longer term relationships with the clients and candidates
that have allowed me to serve the insurance industry for over 34 years. With this in mind, the market
has officially shifted over to an employee-centered market. This translates into job seekers or
opportunistic candidates having the very best of conditions for shopping and landing a better position.
For employers it has now become impossible to keep your own talent satisfied and impossible to
execute on succession plans. The demand based upon the exited baby boomers and shortages of
qualified talent makes this a very unique time for talented people and well run organizations.

The monthly analysis of open jobs posted online continues to be strongest in the North East.
The Mid West and South East are very close behind in terms of openings. The Pacific region continues to
lag behind the rest of the country. The need for underwriting talent is by far the strongest area of
shortages. Sales and claims are right behind on the carrier side of the business. In the brokerage space
the need for account management or service people is stronger than the demand for sales people this
month. Property & Casualty is running 3 to 1 ahead of other areas in terms of open insurance jobs.

As we brace for another cold winter may you and your family have a very safe and blessed Thanksgiving

Holiday.
