Our client seeks an experienced Commercial Transportation Production Underwriters to help expand and strengthen our presence in the South and North Carolina territories.
Our client, a smaller yet well-established independently owned Managing General Agent (MGA) and wholesaler, specializes in property and casualty insurance.
They provide a range of admitted and non-admitted insurance programs to independent insurance agents, operating with full binding authority.
About the Role:
As a Commercial Transportation Production Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in underwriting, quoting, binding, and issuing policies.
Our client’s primary focus is on accounts with 1-15 power units, although they are open to handling larger fleets.
This position requires a deep understanding of the transportation insurance market, particularly within the Carolinas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage relationships with retail agents specializing in transportation insurance across North and South Carolina.
- Underwrite, quote, bind, and issue policies with a focus on small to mid-sized transportation accounts (1-15 power units).
- Leverage existing relationships with insurance companies like NICO and Canal to drive business growth.
- Aim to achieve first-year written premium targets in the range of $1.7M – $2M, with a goal of raising this book to $5M – $6M within three years.
- Conduct 5-7 agency visits per quarter to maintain and strengthen relationships with agents in the region.
Ideal Candidate:
- Familiarity with NICO and Canal insurance companies.
- Strong existing relationships with retail agents in NC and SC who write transportation business.
- Proven track record in commercial transportation underwriting, with the ability to meet and exceed premium targets.
- Experience with both admitted and non-admitted insurance programs.
Territory Coverage:
While the primary focus is on North and South Carolina, our client currently operates in FL, GA, AL, MS, NC, SC, and TX.
Additional Southeast states can be added if needed to support business growth.
