Marine Underwriting Manager
Location: East Coast Remote (Preferred: Atlanta, GA)
Compensation: $200,000+ Base Salary plus Bonus

Overview:
A well-established specialty insurance organization is seeking an experienced Marine Underwriting Manager to lead and expand its U.S. Marine business. This executive-level underwriting leadership role will oversee both Ocean Marine and Inland Marine operations, driving profitable growth, underwriting excellence, broker development, and strategic market expansion.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Marine Cargo, Stock Throughput, Builder's Risk, Contractors' Equipment, and related marine lines, along with a proven track record of building profitable portfolios and leading underwriting teams.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the overall U.S. Marine underwriting strategy across Ocean Marine and Inland Marine product lines.
  • Lead the profitable growth and expansion of the Marine portfolio, including Marine Cargo, Stock Throughput, Builder's Risk, and Contractors' Equipment.
  • Drive new business production through strategic partnerships with retail and wholesale brokers.
  • Strengthen and expand broker relationships while identifying new market opportunities and distribution channels.
  • Establish underwriting guidelines, risk selection standards, growth objectives, and profitability targets aligned with corporate goals.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, market conditions, rate adequacy, and competitive trends.
  • Collaborate closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and business planning.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, broker meetings, client presentations, and trade association events.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting authority, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards.
  • Prepare and present portfolio analytics, production results, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Travel domestically for broker development, client engagement, and industry events; occasional international travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of Marine Underwriting experience.
  • Strong expertise in Ocean Marine, Inland Marine, or a combination of both disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success managing profitable marine underwriting portfolios.
  • Leadership experience overseeing underwriting teams and business development initiatives.
  • Established broker relationships within the marine insurance marketplace.
  • Strong analytical, portfolio management, and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • CPCU, AMIM, or other relevant insurance designations are a plus.
