About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced commercial underwriting professional to lead our national Manufacturing Underwriting vertical.
As Director, you’ll be the driving force behind strategic market identification, underwriting appetite refinement, and product execution for one of our most critical industry segments.

This is a high-visibility, high-impact position where you’ll collaborate closely with internal underwriting teams, actuarial, claims, distribution, and executive leadership. You’ll develop the vision—and execute it—to expand our presence in the manufacturing space across targeted industries and geographies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Manufacturing Underwriting strategy, driving business planning, execution, and refinement
  • Identify high-potential manufacturing classes (light manufacturing, food, plastics, etc.) and define underwriting appetite
  • Build pricing tools, risk selection strategies, and coverage guidance tailored to manufacturing exposures
  • Serve as the face of the Manufacturing vertical—internally and externally—with brokers, agencies, and internal stakeholders
  • Analyze geographic and agency-level data to uncover market gaps and growth opportunities
  • Collaborate with regional offices, claims, finance, and distribution to ensure profitable product delivery
  • Guide the organization’s approach to manufacturing accounts in terms of size, class mix, and risk complexity
  • Ensure compliance with state-specific underwriting regulations
  • No direct reports initially, but potential for future team leadership

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8–17 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience; manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing underwriting strategy
  • Strong understanding of risk selection, pricing methodology, and coverage customization
  • Effective communicator with leadership presence; able to influence cross-functional teams
  • Strategic mindset with ability to manage execution across markets and regions
  • Experience working alongside distribution/production teams to meet new business goals
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CPCU preferred

Work Environment

  • Remote or hybrid schedule based on location
  • Must be able to work East or Central Time Zone hours

Why should you pursue this one?

  • Nationally recognized commercial carrier with strong support infrastructure
  • High autonomy and ownership over a strategic underwriting segment
  • Opportunity to shape product, pricing, and appetite at an enterprise level
  • Annual new business goal: $10%
  • Be part of a culture that values integrity, performance, and collaboration
