Assistant Vice President/Severity Claims Manager

Position Summary:
As the Assistant Vice President/Severity Claims Manager, you will lead and guide a team of liability claims adjusters, demonstrating exceptional leadership and expertise. This pivotal role involves addressing coverage queries, resolving challenges, devising technical training plans, fostering outstanding customer experience, and actively contributing to departmental enhancement projects.

As a key member of the claim’s leadership team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future strategy of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with claims specialists to resolve issues and achieve optimal outcomes for both our organization and insureds.
  • Engage with various departments, including actuary and underwriting, to address litigation, individual claims, best practices, and industry trends.
  • Enhance the team's proficiency in claim handling procedures aligned with Best Practices.
  • Efficiently manage the claims department's inventory, ensuring thorough investigations, appropriate reserves, and effective evaluation, negotiation, and settlement within authority levels.
  • Oversee the identification and pursuit of recovery opportunities, including salvage and subrogation.
  • Navigate the claim authorization process and develop the team's negotiation and settlement skills.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and laws in Federal, State, and Local jurisdictions through continuous research.
  • Develop and implement training programs and procedures, conducting department-specific training.
  • Streamline claims processes, including task automation as required.
  • Support the career development and aspirations of direct reports through performance reviews and constructive feedback.
  • Recruit and retain talented team members within the claim’s organization.
  • Collaborate with customers when additional expertise is necessary, or issues require extra assistance.
  • Attend professional seminars and classes for ongoing education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Preferred insurance-related designations (AIC, SCLA, and/or CPCU).
  • Texas adjuster’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain adjuster licenses in multiple states.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in management roles.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience handling high severity commercial liability claims.
  • Multi-line experience is a must.
  • Proven experience in managing litigated claims.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
